Job Title: Head of Engineering

Location: San Francisco

About Us:

Project Jaxson is leveraging technology to make construction construction cost estimating more accurate, efficient, collaborative and transparent. A dynamic team led by passionate founders and construction industry veterans, we foster a collaborative and flexible work environment where creativity and innovation flourish.

Construction estimating is currently a siloed and cumbersome process, heavily reliant on manual data entry and the subjective knowledge of domain experts. Many firms still depend on Excel for budgeting, which is time-consuming and error-prone. The existing estimating software options are clunky, opaque, and two-dimensional, failing to provide the streamlined, intuitive experience that all projects would benefit from. Project Jaxson is changing this.

The Role:

We are looking for a Head of Engineering who shares our mission and is eager to help us build and grow our organization.  As part of the founding team, you will provide thought leadership and drive our software development and deployment efforts. You will translate complex requirements into innovative software solutions that will shape the future of the construction industry. While we prefer a full-time commitment, we are open to discussing a fractional leadership role that could ramp up based on your qualifications and current commitments.

Responsibilities:

  • Take our product from 0 to 1. Develop and implement a cohesive tech strategy that integrates various techniques, potentially including AI and ML, to build a cloud-based estimating software.

  • Hire a high quality team of engineers.

  • Lead the engineering team, overseeing all aspects of software development, from design through deployment.

  • Collaborate with the team to ensure the tech developments align with the overall strategic business goals.

  • Manage research and development of technology, proposing budgets and timelines for approval and implementation.

  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the organization.

  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI and machine learning technologies, and explore their applicability to the organization's objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or related fields.

  • Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).

  • Experience building and leading early-stage engineering and product teams.

  • Experience in building SaaS products, particularly cloud-based applications.

  • Excellent communication skills in English both verbally and in writing, with the ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences.

  • Passion and experience in construction tech is a plus, but by no means a requirement.

Why Join Us:

  • Be part of a visionary company aiming to disrupt a high-value, old-school, global industry. This work will directly impact the efficiency construction workflows worldwide.

  • Help transition the built environment towards a more sustainable future.

  • Collaborate with a dedicated founding team, directly impact company strategy, and build a strong, technical product team to support you.

  • Enjoy a flexible work environment that values balance, wellness, and continuous learning.

Company Status:

We have developed an MVP sketch with an initial tech scope, conducted several rounds of user research with potential customers, and crafted a detailed business plan. We also have a warm list of investors interested in funding Project Jaxson. Upon bringing our Head of Engineering on board, we will refine the tech scope together and begin fundraising within one to two months.

Compensation:

The compensation package for the founding team members will include equity, benefits, and cash. This role is based in SF and requires in-person and remote work.
